  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

I researched the typical convections in a 2000s music video. Many 2000s songs are love songs, and some talk about heartbreak, but this story is not about that. This story is loosely based on obsession. In my music video, the main character has a crush that she always talks about and obsesses over. She stalks him to take a picture in order to keep on her mirror to admire. every time she sees her best friend, she is always talking about her crush. She gets nervous when she sees him and never could bring herself to speak with him. At the end of the story, the main character's crush shows up at her doorstep to bring her flowers.

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My music video’s intended audience is people who enjoy the late nineties and early 2000s music. In order to reach my target audience, I had to research what typical early 2000s music videos looked like. My product engages with the audience by using a well- known song from this time to tell a story. The song “When I See u” by Fantasia itself tells a story, but the original music video does not portray that story, so we made a music video to show that story. We used inspiration from multiple 2000s music videos so we could implement it into our own. We used exaggerated transitions like Fantasia to give off the same effect her music video does. We also took inspiration from artists like Alicia Keys to add to our music video. Anybody who wants to watch our music video will be able to watch it on almost any electronic device. Anyone who wants to view it for free will be able to on YouTube or any social media app such as TikTok, Instagram, etc.

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills became better throughout this project when it came to filming and editing. My hands were shaky when it came to filming, and I even debated buying a tripod, but I did not buy the tripod because I was on a budget for the film and had other things I needed to purchase. I took a few practice shots to make sure my hands would not shake during filming. A few of the scenes needed to be refilmed multiple times because either the actor or stress would mess up, or I would mess up. The scene that required me to zoom in had to be refilmed many times until I was able to get it right. One of the actresses helped me with the filing and walked me through how to get good shots for some of the scenes. The only other time I have ever edited a video was for my commercial. Editing this music was very different from editing the commercial. I used two editing software for my editing, the first was Cap Cut and the second was Wonder Share Filmora. I previously used capcut on my phone, but this time I was going to use it on my laptop. It took me a while to be able to add the song, but once I began adding each video. It took some time to add trim and to make sure the video lined up with the song. Once they tried to preview the video, it was not smooth, which caused me to switch to another editing program. The second time around, it was not as time- consuming to add the song and the video, especially since I had a reference. When I started the new program, I almost had to restart many times, I would accidentally split the video and the song, which caused it to come together weirdly. I would have to read the song, but the undo button saved me so much time and effort from my other mistakes.,  by the end of filming, everything went smoother, and I was able to finish with no problem.

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

The way I integrated technologies is by using my cell phone as a camera to use it to film the music video. When I was previously interested in filming before taking this class, I saw a video on TikTok that showed me what settings to change in order to have better filming quality. I changed my settings to match those in the video, and now I realize how that helped me to produce a better-quality video. My partner and my cast expressed how my camera quality is excellent despite having the same phone as them. One of the cast members recommended I use cinematic mode on the camera app to produce an even better quality video, and I used this for a few scenes. When I was ready to edit, I was able to transfer the video clips from my phone to my computer by simply using my phone charger to connect it to my laptop. My phone will ask me if I trust the computer, and immediately after pressing “yes,” the pictures and videos load onto my laptop. With this, I am, able to select all the videos I need to save onto my laptop and place them into a file. I used 2 different editing software the first was Cap Cut and the second was Wonder Share Filmora. Both editing software have an option where you can find your saved videos and place them in the editing software so you do not have to go back into files each time you need a different clip. this feature saved me so much time. The only thing I would prefer about Cap Cut is the ability to save without a watermark for free. With Wonder Share Filmora if i tried to save without paying there would be a watermark so I had to purchase it.
